One thing to do is to always have a patched computer up to date, keep your virus program on auto update and defrag monthly, and avoid attachments from the unknown. There are attacks now just from trolls looking for a comment to latch and sadly there is a probe now out in the wild that is in the advertisements of major high traffic pages like a Google search page, that can be contaminated. That one is going to be a growing problem since there is little the user can do, but depend upon the virus program and firewalls to protect you. It is very similar to home security concepts.
